Dear families,
As we approach the final weeks of the school year, with less than four weeks remaining, we are busy preparing our students for the upcoming changes. This is an exciting and sometimes challenging time, especially for our Year 6 students who will soon be moving on to secondary school. We are working hard to ensure they feel ready and confident for this next step in their educational journey.
As the renowned philosopher Aristotle once said, "Education is the best provision for old age." We hope that the knowledge and experiences your children have gained this year will serve them well in the future.
We’ve been fortunate to enjoy some warm and sunny days recently – long may they last! These pleasant days have allowed us to take full advantage of our outdoor spaces for learning and play.
Additionally, we hope all our Muslim families had a joyful and blessed Eid. It has been wonderful hearing about the celebrations and seeing the happiness it brings.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement throughout the year. Let's make these final weeks productive and memorable.

We are delighted to share that Year 4 recently visited the Horniman Museum and had a fantastic time. The students enjoyed exploring the diverse exhibits and engaging in various hands-on activities. It was a wonderful educational experience that brought their classroom learning to life.

On Monday 17th June, children at Roding took part in Science Day! The children engaged in a variety of hands-on experiments and activities designed to spark their curiosity and enhance their understanding of scientific concepts.
From exploring the properties of different materials to observing simple chemical reactions, the students had a fantastic time discovering the wonders of science. It was a day filled with excitement, learning, and lots of inquisitive questions.
We are proud of the enthusiasm and interest shown by all our students and look forward to more such enriching experiences in the future.

Year 6 residential to WALES!
Another year, and another visit to Maes Y Lade near the Brecon Beacons in Wales. While the weather was not as warm, the sun appeared to allow the children to enjoy the fresh air and green surroundings of the barn. The Year 6s took part in exciting, yet challenging activities which really tested their resilience and teamwork, but, we saw them flourish in their new surroundings. Day One saw the children take to the River Wye, a 5-mile canoeing journey led by David. As well as enjoying the nature, the kingfishers that made a quick appearance, and the newly-hatched ducklings, they had to work hard as a team to get the equipment together and steer the canoes down the rapids. All the hard work was celebrated with a dip and swim in the cold water, all finished off with welly-pouring on each other's heads. On Day Two, the children had the challenge of climbing the black mountains of Wales, all the way to the summit, Mount Twmpa. Resilience and strength were key on this journey, with the children having to climb the steep gully of the mountain and tackle the strong winds that accompanied them. Lunch was eaten at the very top, overlooking the magical views of the Welsh hills - a perfect spot for a group photo. Day 3, for some children, was the biggest challenge of all - entering the caves of Porth Yr Ogof. The children (and adults) squeezed through small crevices, crawled along narrow tunnels and tackled challenges like the 'letterbox', 'the 'toilet and the dreaded 'washing machine'. We saw tears in places, both of fear and of pride, and the children were incredible at supporting each other and the adults as well as asking curious questions and ensuring they were learning along the way. Finally, exhausted and worn-out, it was Adventure Day! This entailed working as a team to shuffle down an old, unused railway tunnel where the light was slowly eliminated and children had to use all other senses to get them through to the other end - somewhere that the well-known saying 'seeing the light at the end of the tunnel' was true. This was followed by a zip-line across the valley and finally an adventure in the Welsh waterfalls, a sight that most had never seen before, let alone jumped in. Each day, the children would return - cold, wet and hungry - to a delicious home-cooked meal and free time to explore with their friends, play pool, tend the horses and enjoy a bit of laser tag. It was quite emotional for the adults to see the friendships made there, as well as the way the children took every opportunity and looked after each other along the way. We are extremely proud and know that the children of Roding have kept up the Roding expectations that the centre has always appreciated. Well done Year 6. What a fantastic week we had!

Children in the Deaf Provision were very happy to receive a fantastic card from Whitehall Primary School this week, thanking us for the lovely time they had when they came to our Deaf Meet-Up day. We were so pleased that they were able to join us, along we some of our previous children from Caterham High School. All the children had a fantastic time meeting new friends and old friends. They had fun doing gardening, pond dipping, art and sport activities. It was an amazing day and we can’t wait to meet-up again!

The Roding community took part in our annual Deaf Awareness Week at the beginning of June, and what a week it proved to be! Over four days, children and teachers from across the school took part in games, songs, sports, drama, cooking, and even a bit of gardening…all in the name of promoting deaf awareness across the school.
Our focus for the week was “Inspirational Deaf People”. The week started with some of our Deaf children delivering an assembly to the school where they discussed some of their inspirational Deaf adults. We even had one of our Deaf children, Hamirat, singing one of her favourite songs in front of the school…very brave – and inspirational - of her!
Right across the week, we were very lucky to be visited by a number of inspirational Deaf adults. Acclaimed Deaf musician Ruth Montgomery delivered music workshops to our children in Nursery to Year 2, Deaf chef Mandy Briden tasked some of our children to make and bake a variety of delicious foods, Deaf footballer Jack Harding worked with our older learners on football skills, and a Deaf-friendly theatre production company “Handprint Theatre” provided drama lessons for Years 3 and 4. Even our very own Mrs Blunsum had pupils and teachers in years 5 and 6 working hard for a “Staff Sign Name Race” competition.
Needless to say, lots of invaluable knowledge, skills and…more importantly…fun was had by all throughout the week!

STAFF SPOTLIGHT-MISS GOLDBERG
Hi everyone, my name is Miss Goldberg, and I am a class teacher in Year 6 (the best year of primary school by far!). I have had an incredible journey at the school, made possible by the outstanding staff and inspiring children who make up the Roding community. It all began many moons ago, when I joined Roding Primary as a midday assistant. I was known as ‘the parachute lady’ and loved spending the hour outside with children and getting to know them, their interests and their talents. I decided to train as a teaching assistant and soon after got the job, the experience I gained as a TA was invaluable, and the children inspired me to take my career further. Working full-time and getting my degree in early childhood education was extremely difficult, topped off by a pandemic and starting a family all at the same time. Yet here I am, doing the job that I absolutely love and getting to do it in the most incredible school with the most incredible people. I hope that the children see that if I can succeed, overcoming a wealth of barriers, they can too!
Before my Roding career, I taught dance to many children whom I have seen progress through Roding and into young adulthood. That is why you may find me going crazy in front when children are performing and always dancing around at our special events, because I still love to see the children dance and enjoy themselves outside the classroom. I am a qualified tap, ballet and street dance teacher – as well as a British troupe champion – and love seeing children at Roding throw themselves into dance and performing arts, as well as all the other talents the children behold. Some of my favourite experiences at Roding have been attending the year 5 and 6 residentials in the beautiful outdoors and will treasure the memories built there for a long time.
When I get home after a long day, there is nothing better than being greeted by my little boy Freddie, who will begin his own Roding journey here in September as he attends nursery. He is my world – my pride and joy – and he enjoys nothing more than coming to visit my wonderful class. He is a crazy West Ham fan, like his mum, already developing his own footy skills at Ray Park on a Saturday.
I am eternally grateful for the opportunity given to me at Roding to train and develop into the teacher I am today, but also to the children I have met along the way. 6G has been the most incredible class to teach in my first year doing it alone, and I have genuinely loved every minute. They are a fantastic year group, who have put everything and more into their learning this year, and I will miss them dearly. A jam-packed summer seeing my brother get married in Ireland and a much-needed break in Rhodes with my family lay ahead, then back in September ready to attack the year with a new class, whom I cannot wait to work with!

Year 2 recently visited London Zoo, and it was an extraordinary experience for everyone involved. The children had a wonderful time exploring the zoo and learning about the animals.
The children were mesmerised by the penguins’ playful dives and swift swimming. Another exciting experience was visiting the Butterfly Paradise, where the children enjoyed walking amongst the colourful butterflies.
The monkey enclosure was also a favourite stop, as the children observed the monkeys swinging from trees and interacting with each other.
The trip to London Zoo provided a perfect blend of fun and education, creating lasting memories for our Year 2 children.

Good attendance is vital for the success of pupils and their wellbeing. It is widely known that poor attendance directly impacts on pupil's attainment not just now but in the long term. Life chances are reduced by poor attendance.
Did you know that 83.9% of pupils with 100% attendace in KS2 achieved the expected standard compared to only 40.2% of pupils who had attendance lower than 90%? Please do work with us and ensure your child attends school regularly and on time. The school's target is 96%
