Roding Primary School & Nursery with Provision for Deaf Children.

Roding Lane North, Woodford Green, Essex, IG8 8NP

Redbridge Advisory Service - Jane Igielman and Alison Warford (Pre - School)

We support hearing impaired children and their families, aged from birth to four years old. We work in homes, pre-schools and nurseries. The children we visit have a range of hearing losses, from mild to profound. We visit children according to need as defined by the NatSip eligibility criteria ranging from fortnightly to termly. We liaise with Audiology clinics, parent support workers, cochlear implant centres, speech and language therapy services, Pre-school, home visiting services and other relevant services.

We embrace the philosophy that early intervention, consistent use of audiology equipment and regular monitoring is essential for the development of good language and communication skills in deaf and Hearing Impaired children

Support and advice in homes includes:

  • Information about hearing loss
  • Supporting children’s use of hearing aids
  • Supporting children with Cochlear implants
  • Discussions about the implications of hearing loss for a child
  • Suggesting and modelling activities that help develop language
  • Discussion of educational provisions to suit children
  • Assessing language and communication development
  • Introducing sign language where appropriate
  • Facilitating parent to parent contact
