We are looking for an experienced and positive Teaching Assistant to join our large, friendly and very committed team of Teaching Assistants to provide individual and group interventions, as well as in-class group support, for children with additional needs.  A willingness to manage, when necessary, the care needs of some of our children would also be a requirement. Excellent oral and written English skills are essential and a willingness to train for Level 1 British Sign Language (BSL) is desirable in order to allow you to help support identified children taught in school as part of our provision for deaf children. 

Previous experience of working in either Early Years or Key Stage 1 or 2 with children with identified learning needs would be essential as would experience or interest in working with children with emotional/social/mental health difficulties – SEMh (BESD). 

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a further selection process which will include a short practical task with children, a maths test based on expected Year 6 standards and a short writing task.  Only candidates successful in these tasks will proceed to a formal interview.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to join our service supporting deaf children from 0-25 years within Redbridge.

The successful applicant will complement the work of Teachers of the Deaf by providing a fault finding/monitoring service for children with hearing aids, cochlear implants and radio aids who attend schools/pre-school settings. You will be working under the guidance of our Audiological Technician to support a caseload of children in mainstream schools and in a range of settings, including audiology clinics/cochlear implant centres/hospitals. You would also be working with parents, so experience of successfully providing support for parents would be an advantage.  

We are looking for a highly motivated, positive person with excellent communication skills. Experience of working within the deaf community or working in a school would be an advantage. Your own transport would be desirable.
