Early Reading

At Roding Primary School, we use a variety of different techniques and schemes to introduce children to reading  in a fun and creative way.

We teach Phonics on a daily basis and try to consolidate their learning by encouraging parents to take part at home and feeding back progress to us through each child's individual Reading Diary. We encourage children to try and read for 5 minutes at home, each day.

We regularly have 'Stay and Read' sessions where parents are invited to school to take part in reading with their child. We have also invested in an online portal called Tapestry, where a child's learning journal can be updated by both teachers and parents. More information about this can be found here.

For Phonics, we use the Letters and Sounds scheme first introduced in 2007. You can find out more information about this scheme here. You can also find resources to help your child learn here.

For Reading, we use Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat and Project X. Further information can be found on their websites.
