Homework

“A well managed homework programme helps children and young people to practice the skills and attitudes they will need for successful lifelong learning.  Homework also supports the development of independent learning skills and provides parents with an opportunity to take part in their children’s education.”  (DCFS homework guidelines)

Article 5 –Children have a right to be given guidance by their parents –as stated on the United Nation Convention of the Rights of a Child.

At Roding we believe the following are important homework aims:

  • To develop an effective partnership between school, parents and other carers in pursuing the aims of the school in helping children to achieve their potential
  • To provide another opportunity for parents to become involved in their child’s learning
  • To consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding
  • To exploit resources for learning of all kinds at home
  • To extend school learning for example through additional reading, through real life experiences and application of learning in another context
  • To encourage children to develop confidence and self discipline needed to learn independently.
  • The school will provide support for families with information about homework

Homework will be set evry Friday and will be due back by the following tuesday at the latest.
